Mayor’s Column February 17th, 2024
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun and thank you!

The “City of Sculpture” branding is reaching new heights!  This year we celebrated our oldest sculpture’s 100th anniversary, and this weekend kicks off our first annual Ice Fest, where Wisconsin’s Sculpture city will display 60 ice sculptures. This event will also help us kick off the new “Waupun Sculpture Tour” this spring. We’ll have multiple sculptures that will rotate annually. This will complement the permanent Shaler sculptures nicely, and give visitors a reason to keep visiting Waupun!

I want to thank Jeni Maly and Jodi Mallas for all their work in organizing Waupun’s first Ice Fest. It’ll feature many cool events like a Fire and Light Show, Art Gala featuring dueling pianos, horse drawn carriages, and more! For a complete list of events, please visit waupunicefest.com or check out their Facebook pages.

Also, this weekend is another one of the Other Bar’s Meat Raffles This week Andy was kind enough to let me choose the nonprofit and I picked the Waupun branch of “Sleep in Heavenly Peace.” SHP makes and delivers beds for kids who do not have a bed to sleep on. I was surprised to learn just how many kids don’t have a bed to sleep on and no kid should have to sleep on the floor in Waupun. The raffle begins at 3pm and lasts about an hour and a half.  Hope to see you there!

Finally, the weather looks perfect for IceFest with temperatures right around the freezing mark, not too cold, and not too warm with lots of sunshine!  I’m told there’s a scavenger hunt and one of the items is to grab a picture with the mayor, so I’ll be hanging around and look forward to seeing you!

Have fun Waupun!

Mayor Rohn
