Mayor’s Column April 20, 2024
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun!

I’d be remiss if I didn’t take a moment to mention the passing of Mike Werner. I got to know Mike when my dad owned the carwash and washed the Werner Harmsen fleet of vehicles.  Mike was a long time business person and really loved Waupun. His donations launched the Waupun Community Fund, and his generosity will be felt for decades to come. Mike gave a large donation towards the new senior/community center, and has been a great supporter of the Forest Mound Cemetery Association.  Mike will truly be missed, and he leaves a huge legacy, because Waupun is better off because he lived here.

On Tuesday, I was sworn in for my second term as mayor. I’d like to thank everyone who turned out to watch and then joined me for pizzas at the Other Bar. Your support means a lot to me, and I appreciate that so many people took time out of their day to celebrate with me!

We have installed a second handicapped accessible canoe/kayak launch on the Rock River. This one is located on Gateway Drive near the wastewater plant. This will allow people to hop in the river and float out into the Horicon Marsh if they want. It’s another exciting addition to Waupun’s outdoor recreation options, and helps keep Waupun a cool place to live!

Finally, I’m still working on utilities to repaint the water towers. Because Waupun has Wisconsin’s only reverse osmosis water treatment system, and we now have the most state-of-the-art waste water treatment plant, I think it’s appropriate that our water towers say “Waupun…Wisconsin’s Water City.”

Thank you and God Bless,

Mayor Rohn
