Mayor’s Column February 24th, 2024
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun,

This week, Governor Evers signed into law new legislative maps, and unfortunately this means a change for Waupun. I say unfortunately because Waupun has developed a really good working relationship with Senator Feyen and Representative Schraa. Waupun will now be represented by Representative Mark Born of Beaver Dam and Senator John Jagler of Watertown.

I would like to thank Dan Feyen and Michael Schraa for both their friendships and for fighting for Waupun, shared revenue,  fighting for correctional officers, and for putting up with me. I look forward to remaining friends and hopefully working together sometime.

I would also like to welcome John Jagler and Mark Born to Waupun.  I’m already friends with Mark and look forward to working with him. I also look forward to getting to know Mr. Jagler. We’re working on scheduling a meeting and a tour of Waupun to help them get up to speed on our issues and needs.  As mayor, I’ll continue to work with members of either party to advocate for Waupun.

On Monday night we had a nice inauguration ceremony for our new Police Chief, Jermery Rausch.  We had a really nice turnout and I’m excited to work with Chief Rausch moving forward. I really believe we found the right person for the job. Both he and I are committed to keeping Waupun one of Wisconsin’s safest cities, and giving our officers a department they can be proud to work for.

This week marked the end of the Senior Center Pool league.  I’d like to thank the seniors for allowing me to join their league, even though I’m nowhere near old enough! I had a lot of fun and enjoyed meeting you all.  I wasn’t very good, but did enjoy myself.

Finally, this week I’m out in Washington, D.C. lobbying on behalf of Waupun and Waupun Utilities, specifically WPPI and public power. Waupun is a long-time proud member of WPPI, and being a locally owned utility company gives us lower rates and better service.  Waupun Utilities is a great asset to our city, and I’m excited to share that message with our representatives in Washington.

Thank you and God Bless, Waupun!

Mayor Rohn
