Mayor Begins Initiative to Return Heritage to City Branding

WAUPUN — When Mayor Rohn Bishop was running for mayor, his first priority once he got elected was to rebrand Waupun back to the City of Sculpture, and embrace the rich heritage of the city and its people. The previous mayoral administration had shied away from Waupun’s heritage, having removed the End of the Trail Statue from the city branding. Under former mayor Julie Nickel, the city replaced the municipal emblem with a generic crop logo, which former Historical Society President Jay Graff took to calling “corn people,” pointing out that it doesn’t fully represent who or what Waupun is or should be.

Mayor Bishop has worked towards bringing back the heritage into municipal branding, distributing several City of Waupun flags to various locations throughout the city. Before he had taken office, the flag had only been flown at the Department of Public Works building and at the Shaler Park Veteran’s Memorial. But since he had been sworn in, it now flies in front of City Hall, at the gate of Forest Mound Cemetery, and even hangs on the wall in the Common Council Room at City Hall.

Yesterday, Mayor Bishop shared in a Facebook post the new emblem for the Office of the Mayor, a minimalist End of the Trail silhouette with the city tagline—”City of Sculpture”—circling the top of the statue.

The Mayor has begun distributing City flags to local businesses, including Homan’s GM, Warner Harmsen, Real Sportscards, and Wine and Unwind. Businesses that are interested in displaying a City of Waupun flag can contact Mayor Rohn Bishop at mayor@cityofwaupun.org.
