Mayor’s Column November 8, 2025
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun,

This was a busy week as I had something almost every night. Tuesday was the Waupun Community Fund event at Hoya Hop, Wednesday was the downtown ally reconstruction informational meeting, and Thursday was the Envison Greater Fond du Lac/WEDC Ignite Rural Business Accelerator Program Pitch Event. Congratulations to Kurt Wismer and GRiT on winning the $30,000 grand prize! Thank you to Envision for hosting the event at the Waupun City Hall auditorium. It was a beautiful venue for a really cool event! It’s neat to see so many young entrepreneurs from around Fond du Lac County!

This Tuesday is Veterans’ Day, and the annual Veterans’ Day Ceremony will be at the City Hall Auditorium at 10:45am. The sirens will sound at 11am, and the ceremony will wrap up about 11:30. It’s followed with a free lunch put on by the American Legion Auxiliary at the American Legion hall. I hope to see you there.

On a personal note, I have always been uncomfortable with how we honor veterans on Veterans’ Day. Do Veterans deserve a holiday? Absoubtly! But I’ve never understood why we close the post office and the bank, while most veterans go to work on their holiday. I’ve long felt that Congress should revisit Veterans’ day, and instead of a paid day off for government employees, we should honor veterans on their special day. One way is to make sure we thank vets on Veterans day, and we can do that by attending their ceremony on Tuesday. And while I understand the importance of work and being open, I do encourage all of us in Waupun, if possible, to attend. It’s less than an hour long, and that’s not too much to ask to thank those who make our freedoms possible.

Thank you to all of our amazing veterans here in Waupun! Thank you for your service, thank you for your sacrifices, and thank you for putting your lives on the line, for 250 years, to keep all of us safe and free!

Finally, as I’m sure you’ve noticed, Homan Auto put up two very large flags at both of their new car locations here in Waupun. I’m excited to announce that Homan’s are graciously donating the old flagpoles to the City of Waupun. I would like to install them at Heritage Park (the Windmill Park) so we can fly the American Flag, state flag, city flag, and the National Flag of the Netherlands alongside the windmill. Thank you to Homan Auto for the donation of the flagpoles, we’re hopeful to install them come spring.

Thank you and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
