WAUPUN — The new “City of Sculpture” decals were placed on the city wayfinding signs across town earlier this week. The signs now sport new silhouettes of four of Waupun’s statues, including the End of the Trail, The Pioneers, He Who Sows Believes in God, and Dawn of Day. Also added on the wayfinding signs was the former Waupun brand of “City of Sculpture” below the city name.
The return of city branding to the “City of Sculpture” was one of Mayor Bishop’s primary campaign issues when he ran for office earlier this year. The new wayfinding signs were purchased late last year but did not include anything specific about Waupun, something Mayor Bishop worked to change ever since he was elected mayor.
“I’m thankful for all the support I got and for everyone in the community who donated towards the signs,” Mayor Bishop said in a statement to WPN. “I’d like to especially thank Destination Lake Winnebago for drawing the designs, and Homan Auto and Guth’s for their strong support.”
Destination Lake Winnebago Region Visitors Bureau is a non-profit organization that promotes local business and tourist attractions based in Fond du Lac County. Directors Craig Molitor and Erin Lund attended last week’s City Council meeting to present the annual report, including showing off the new sculpture silhouette designs they produced.
“I’m also thankful to the many residents who called their Alderman and asked them to support my efforts to celebrate our history and return Waupun to Wisconsin’s City of Sculpture,” Mayor Bishop said.
The new statue silhouettes can be found citywide on the wayfinding signs and will soon be displayed at the new visitors center downtown.
