Mayor’s Column October 11, 2025
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun
Hello Waupun,
This past week, I was privileged to participate in flag raising ceremonies at the Homan Auto locations, here in Waupun. I was able to join the Waupun American Legion and Waupun VFW as the dealerships raised large flags to help celebrate next year’s 250th birthday for America!
On Thursday, I visited the Senior Expo that was taking place at the new Community Center. What an amazing turnout! I had the chance to visit with lots of people and loved catching up with a couple of former school teachers. Both are now long retired but remembered me as a student and think it’s cool a former student of theirs is now the mayor!
Next Saturday will be the Downtown Waupun Fall Family Festival. The downtown business will be hosting many different Halloween themed games and events, including a pet decorating contest. Yours truly is a judge at the contest, so while I may bring Mr. Smith (the cat) along in costume, he will not be eligible to win.
You’ll also soon see more work happening at Shaler park. Because of the ATC easement for the high voltage power lines that go through there, and ATC’s inability to move the pole, some of our military branch flagpoles are in the easement and ATC is asking that the poles be moved for safety reasons. City DPW leadership has met with Frank Mesa and Bob Patrollie at the park to decide a new location. Moving the poles will allow the flags to stay in the park, and for the city to add names and expand the veterans’ wall as needed. The cost of moving the flagpoles will be paid for by ATC.
The Rock and Newton Street project has now all but ended. This was a major multiyear project, and with the creek portion of the project being completed, the hope is that those homes will now be able to be removed from the flood plain. Also, before becoming mayor, I was not aware that when that section of street was put in in the early 1970’s, it did not have storm water pipes under it, which was a major reason for standing water that helped sink the street over the years. Now that loop has nice new streets, new storm and sanitary laterals, new sidewalks, new curbs and gutters, new park equipment at Zoellner Park, and a new flatter approach to County Park Road. Now, that neighborhood is good to go for another 55 years!
Thank you and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
