Waupun Utilities offers new program to customers with smart thermostats
Power Partner Rewards aims to keep community energy use down during high demand times
WAUPUN — Waupun Utilities customers now have the chance to add some money to their pocket while helping their community keep electric costs down, all without ever having to touch the thermostat.
As part of a new program called Power Partner Rewards, anyone with a qualifying “smart” thermostat in their home or small business can choose to have their temperature settings changed for a few hours on days when energy demand is highest. Enrollment in the program comes with compensation.
“When customers with these types of thermostats sign up, the program will adjust their settings to use less energy for short periods when overall energy use is very high,” said Steve Brooks, General Manager of Waupun Utilities. “It will also pre-cool the home or business to help and keep it more comfortable during the event. It’s a good way to help keep our overall system costs down and reliability up when it matters most.”
Power Partner Rewards will span summer months, when air conditioning use greatly increases the amount of energy needed to keep spaces cool during the afternoon hours. Customers who enroll in the program will receive a $25 reward when they first sign up and another $25 bill credit at the end of each season. Program participants can choose to opt out of any thermostat adjustment event and simply override the controls of their thermostat when needed.

Customers can receive a rebate from Focus on Energy when they purchase a smart thermostat. More information about available rebates and how to apply can be found by visiting focusonenergy.com/residential/smart-thermostats.
