Mayor’s Column October 7th, 2023
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun,

Today (Saturday) is the big day! After a year of planning and lots of work, the Recording Angel Rededication Ceremony weekend is finally here.  With the rededication at 10am, and the Waupun Community Players’ performance of “A Poison Pen Letter to an Angel” tonight, it should be a fun time celebrating our city’s oldest sculpture.

Last Saturday night, I had the privilege to ride along with the Waupun Police Department and get a feel of patrolling on a Saturday night. On a ride along, I sure do learn a lot, and get a new perspective about policing. It was nice to patrol with the second shift, and stay over to greet the third shift officers. I was even privileged to see a cool drug demonstration by K-9 Jet.

I plan on doing another ride along soon, as well as spending a day shadowing our school resource officer. Later this fall, I look forward to helping with yard waste collection and over the winter even riding along in a plow.  I believe experiencing firsthand the work of our city staff gives a Mayor a better perspective, and shows that as a community, we appreciate the hard work and services our team provides.

Finally, I’d like to thank my wife Jenny for putting up with my schedule for the last couple of weeks. With the final preparations for the rededication, and rehearsals for the play, I have been really busy, not home, and at times overwhelmed. Mayor of Waupun really is the busiest, most underpaid part time job there is. It’s truly a labor of love, and it is an honor to be the mayor.

Thank you and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
