Mayor’s Column June 10th, 2023
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun!

2023 started with new and improved garbage service, and beginning on Monday, construction will begin on the new and improved Main Street railroad crossing! Main Street will be closed to through traffic between Watertown and Brandon/Beaver Dam St. for this long awaited project. While the traffic counts are down, Waupun DPW will be doing some concrete replacements on Main Street, and if all goes according to plan, Trayton Greenfield will be driving his Cadillac over the new crossing sometime later this week.

On Monday, I had the privilege of joining a Waupun Utilities Electric Crew during a back yard reconstruction project on South Division Street. I was able to see them installing new transformers and wires on newly installed power poles. I really enjoy seeing first-hand the work our city crews do, and learning what all goes into providing the services we use.

On Wednesday, I had the super cool privilege of participating in the opening ceremonies of the first ever American Legion Softball game played in the State of Wisconsin, right here at Medema Fields in Waupun! It was a fun ceremony to be a part of, and I think my ceremonial first pitch was almost a strike!

On Thursday, I attended the Waupun Parks Program Summer Kickoff Party. Last year we brought back the Summer Parks Programs, and thanks to Parks Director Rachel Kaminsky and Jenni Maly, the Waupun Summer Parks Program was better than ever, and we’re only building on it for this year. A Summer Parks Program is important as it gives kiddos something fun to do, and helps keep them out of trouble.

If you haven’t had a chance yet, I highly recommend checking out the new Mill Pond Fountain, especially after dark. It has cool lights that change the color of the fountain.

Last weekend, the Other Bar held a meat raffle with the proceeds going toward the Recording Angel Centennial Rededication Ceremony to be held this upcoming October 7. Thanks to everyone who participated, we raised a little more than $500. We still a little more money, so if you’re interested in helping sponsor the event, please let us know.

Finally, it appears that Governor Evers and the Legislature have agreed on a way to increase Shared Revenue to cities like Waupun. I’d like to thank Senator Dan Feyen and Representative Michael Schraa for putting up with me the last several months while I lobbied for Waupun’s needs, and working hard to help Waupun moving forward.

Thank you and God Bless
Mayor Rohn
