Mayor’s Column May 16, 2026
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun

Over the past week, the Public Works team has been hard at work on the veterans’ memorial located at Shaler Park. They moved the service branch flagpoles out of the high voltage easement, removed the arborvitae, power washed the memorial walls, the sculpture, and cleaned everything up in time for the Memorial Day festivities next Monday, May 25. The Memorial Day parade is at 9AM and the ceremony follows at about 9:45AM at Shaler Park.

Next door, in the Forest Mound Cemetery, work is to begin repairing the Crawford gravestones. Joshua and Sophia Crawford lived here in Waupun and are the Great Grandparents of President Warren G. Harding. Thanks to a donation from Jay Graff they have the needed funds to fix them. They were damaged in the 2018 tornado. If you visit our beautiful cemetery, I encourage you to walk up the hill in the back and see the Civil War Memorial. Many people don’t realize it’s up there, and while you’re there, you will see the beautiful Recording Angel that marks the Shaler grave plots. There’s a lot of history in our cemetery.

Are you looking for something to do this weekend? The Waupun Community Players are performing today at 2 and 6 pm at Waupun City Hall. The Antique Truck and Tractor Show will be at the Heritage Ridge Travel Plaza, and of course it is the city-wide rummage-sale weekend.

Beginning in June, I will be attending Wisconsin Department of Transportation meetings regarding the upgrading of USH 151 from Columbus to Waupun.

Finally, congratulations to Waupun Warrior Softball on winning the Conference Championship, and to all the graduating seniors at WASD and CWC! Congrats class of 2026!

Thank you,
Mayor Rohn
