WAUPUN — The Waupun Lions Club held their annual meeting Tuesday evening at The Rock Golf Club in Waupun. The meeting was also attended by members of the Beaver Dam Lions Club.
The meeting started with the presentation of a giant check from the Lions Club to the Waupun Hockey Association leadership. The $5,000 was donated to the Hockey Association as part of the fundraiser to replace the Community Center flooring.
During the dinner a presentation was given by Katrina Pokorny about humanitarian efforts in Haiti, including literacy, arithmetic, and agricultural education.
Pokorny visited Haiti as a high schooler in 2017, which motivated her to start a nonprofit organization called Feeding Haiti Through Agriculture Education. Through this organization Pokorny sells handmade Haitian crafts, which 100% of the proceeds helps fund education for Haitian kids living in poverty.
Following the presentation the Lions moved onto club business. The club then held a small raffle for members after business was completed. The Lions also honored Wayne Buteyn for his many years of serving the Lions Club, naming him Waupun’s Lion of the Year for 2022-2023.
The Lions Club International is a civic organization aimed at improving communities across the United States and worldwide. The Waupun Lions Club previously celebrated their 60th anniversary last September.
