WAUPUN — Hundreds of Waupun residents attended the Memorial Day parade and ceremony held Monday morning. The parade started in downtown Waupun and ended at Forest Mound Cemetery, with the ceremony held at Shaler Park Veteran’s Memorial.
The Memorial Day parade and ceremony were organized by the Memorial Day Committee in association with Bentley-Hull American Legion Post 210 and VFW Post 6709.
The ceremony was led by Sergeant Major Curtis Patrouille of the Wisconsin Army National Guard, Commander of the VFW Frank Mesa, and Commander of the American Legion Bob Patrouille.Ceremony music was played by the Waupun Sr. High Band, led by Michelle Naegale.
The ceremony included the playing of each branch song, placing of flowers and wreath, gun salutes, and a reading of the local veterans who passed away in the last year. The American Legion and VFW honored two members with “Veteran of the Year” awards, Robert L. Bille and Wayne Buteyn, respectively.
The Waupun American Legion held a lunch following the ceremonial services.
