Mayor’s Column January, 2026
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun!

I have a favor to ask of those of you who live in the Park, Roosevelt, and Grove Street area of Waupun. As you may know, we are planning a major street project in your area, and we’re looking at a cost of about $3 million. There is a grant possibility for about a million dollars that we’re trying to get to help pay for the project, however, to qualify for the grant certain criteria have to be met, which includes having the residents of the construction zone area filling out and returning a survey. If you live in this area you were sent a survey, and city staff have been knocking on doors and leaving door hangers reminding you to fill out the survey, in fact, you’ll see me walking around the area this weekend as we push to have surveys turned in. So, if you live in the Park, Roosevelt, or Grove Street area, or know someone who does, please help us get these surveys turned back in!

Last week, I wrote about the VFW/American Legion’s struggle to purchase new flags for the military poles at Shaler park. Thank you to those who’ve so far stepped up to help me raise the $300 or so needed. If anyone else wishes to make a donation, please make a check payable to the “Waupun Memorial Wall Fund” and drop it at the National Exchange Bank or mail it to the American Legion.

This Tuesday at 4:30 the Board of Public Works will be discussing possible changes to downtown parking restrictions. Currently the board is being asked to consider changing from 2 to 4-hour parking throughout the downtown. This does come at some cost, namely new signage, and this change affects different businesses differently, so if you have an opinion on downtown parking or have a unique parking situation, this is a good opportunity to have it discussed.

Finally, we had a great turnout of downtown business owners for a luncheon at Hoya Hop this past week as we look to become a Main Street community. A lot has to happen yet to get us there, but this looks to be the next exciting step for Waupun, as we work to keep our momentum going in the right direction.

Thank you and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
