WAUPUN — The City of Waupun voted overwhelmingly to support Republican candidates on all levels of office this election cycle.
The election was held at the new Waupun Community Center, which opened for the first time last month.
Of the notable results, the City of Waupun received a total of 4,785 votes in the presidential election. Of those, 3,233 residents voted for Republican Candidate President-Elect Donald J. Trump, which was about 67.6% of residents. Another 1,489 voted for Democrat Candidate Vice President Kamala Harris, which was about 31.1%. A total of 63 votes were cast for third party or write-in candidates, which made up only 1.3% of City resident votes.
For Senator of Wisconsin 4,700 votes were cast. Democrat incumbent Tammy Baldwin received 1,532 votes, or 32.6% of the vote. Republican challenger Eric Hovde received 3,035 votes, or 64.6%. The other 133 votes were cast for third party candidates or write-ins, which was the remaining 2.8%.
For Congress, incumbent Representative Glenn Grothman (R-Glenbeulah) received 3,146 votes while his challenger John Zarbano received 1,324 in the City of Waupun. Grothman has served as the Wisconsin District 6 Representative to Congress since being elected in 2014.
Waupun’s new State Representative, Assemblyman Mark Born (R-Beaver Dam), received 3,185 votes while his challenger, Democrat Latoya Bates, received 1,324 in the City of Waupun. Born held a fundraiser rally at The Legion Bar in Waupun the week before the election, having been redistricted to include Waupun in the state map changes in the new 37th District.
