Mayor’s Column September 21, 2024
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun!

Well, the dam still isn’t fixed, but the repairs have begun. We are waiting on a part to show up and hopefully we’ll start damming the water again come Wednesday. In the meantime, I’d like to thank all the residents who have been walking in and along the river, picking up trash and finding buried treasures. My neighbor, Brian Wilderman, found some ammunition that led to the Dane County bomb squad coming up Saturday night. They think the ammunition is world war era, folks have also found some firearms, a few glass bottles, a safe, and random garbage.

The river cleanup is happening this morning, but with so many people having been along the river, it’s hard to say what’s left? One thing you’ve probably noticed is the log jam of logs and tree debris by the trestles of the old railroad bridge. We are working with the railroad to get that cleaned up.

Speaking of the railroad, I’m excited to announce that the railroad company will be doing repairs to the crossing on Brown St. starting October 1st. These repairs will be about the same as was done on Main St. last year. The repairs will take three or four days to complete,  weather permitting. The street will be closed from S. Drummond St. to Walker St. There will not be a marked detour route. Please plan ahead if you need Brown St. The railroad will work with Wee Care for parking and drop-off.

Finally, don’t forget about the food truck alley opening ceremony on October 5 at 10 am.

Thank you,

Mayor Rohn
