Hello Waupun,
What a wet weekend so far. We were soaked at the high school football game, but the Tony’s Pizza still tasted good, and it was nice to see a good Waupun performance. As for the rain, we mostly need it. Hopefully we don’t have any flooding, but the river could use a good flushing to remove the algae.
This was a busy week in Waupun. On Monday, we swore in a new police officer, Cindy Feuerhammer badge #389. On Tuesday, I was in Madison for the Customers First Power Breakfast, that focused on affordability for electric rates. As always, it was a very informative meeting, and a good chance to discuss things with state lawmakers.
Wednesday through Friday I was in Sheboygan for the annual Wisconsin Public Power Incorporated (WPPI) annual meetings. They’re always interesting, and we learned all about energy generation, transmission, and the future of what it will take to keep the lights on. I guess the biggest takeaway is that the demand for energy continues to grow. People like electric cars, mowers, weed eaters, etc. Business is doing more automation, and social media and AI all need more electricity, not to mention the data center boom happening all over America. It was also a good opportunity to meet with fellow public power community mayors. It gives us a chance to discuss what each other has happening and how they’re handling it.
Next week looks much calmer. I do have a speaking engagement at the school, a budget strategy meeting, a meeting about scooters, and our Waupun Employee Appreciation lunch, but at least they’re all here in Waupun!
