WAUPUN — Gysbers Jewelry held a grand opening event last weekend to show off the recently completed new section of their store.
The new section of the store was previously its own building at 311 E Main Street and was purchased last June from Krista Bishop, who ran a fabric business called Weaving It Up To You out of the shopfront. Krista’s late husband Rohn Bishop Sr. also ran a car detailing business out of the back before his passing in 2022. Bishop Sr. was the father of Mayor of Waupun Rohn W. Bishop.
The new section includes a new “Diamond Center” along with a lounge and private viewing rooms available for discreet purchases.
“You can reserve the rooms on our website and you can use that room for really anything: an engagement ring, birthdays, anniversaries, I just had a group of 20 gals reserve it for a permanent jewelry party,” said Maggie Shell, the younger part-owner of Gysber’s Jewelry.
The new addition doubles the size of the property operated by Gysbers Jewelry, with the new “diamond center” now about half of the total open showroom at Gysbers.
At the front of the new addition are several showcases viewable from the street, and one wall in the showroom has several historical photographs of the business from throughout the years.
Gysbers Jewelry was first established in 1874 by Maggie’s great-great grandfather and has been passed down through the family for 150 years, and is currently in its fifth generation with Maggie.
“We’re very thankful that we’ve been able to have a business here in Waupun for 150 years,” Shell said. “We know that without the community support that wouldn’t have happened, so we’d just like to say thank you.”
The new Diamond Center was officially opened in May, which was announced in a Facebook post on the Gysber’s Jewelry page.
“We can’t wait to welcome you and serve the surrounding communities with our exceptional services and amenities. Come and experience luxury and elegance at its finest!” the post said.
Plans are also being made for a 150th anniversary celebration party sometime this October.
Gysbers Jewelry is located at 305 E Main Street in downtown Waupun. Renovations were also completed to the upstairs apartment.
