Mayor’s Column June 1, 2024
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun!

First, the Sculpture Tour sculptures have shown up.  Thanks to the hard work of one of my favorite Waupunites, Jeni Maly, Waupun is taking the City of Sculpture branding to the next level.  Beginning this year, Waupun will feature a rotation of sculptures, sponsored by different businesses, artists, organizations, and non-profits, to celebrate Waupun and our legacy as Wisconsin’s Sculpture City.

I’m so thankful for Jeni and the City of Sculpture non-profit she started, and I’m thrilled how this community has rallied around Mr. Shaler’s legacy.  We’ve come a long way from July 2022 when I had no support to rebrand back to the city of sculpture. The rebranding is taking off more than I ever would have imagined, and I’m proud of it.  I’ll brag here, but the city of sculpture branding, and honoring the legacy of Clarence Shaler and Waupun’s history is an accomplishment I am proud of!

Second, we’ve gotten complaints about trees down in the Rock River east of the city blocking kayakers, and also being a potential flooding issue for the city, because we are up river.  I asked Waupun Correctional Warden Randy Hepp permission to have Steve Biever fly his drone over the river east of the city, on DOC land. Warden Hepp was super helpful and we found the down trees blocking the river. We’re now working with the state on getting the river cleared up, for both recreational usage and to relieve flooding here in the city.

Next, we have a busy weekend coming up! Flea market, the MidTown Market returns, the pool opens up for the season, and the Homan Auto Car Show!  Homan Auto is celebrating their 50th anniversary in business this year! Congratulations to Mark, Jeff, Steve, and now Eric Homan on 50 years of servicing Waupun, and thank you for all you do for Waupun! Your generosity to Waupun is appreciated and is a great tribute to your dad, and the business founder, Ed.

Thank you, Waupun!
