Hello Waupun!
Memorial Day weekend is here, and the parade is scheduled for 9am on Memorial Day, and the Memorial Day Ceremony is at about 10 at Shaler Park. If the weather gets bad, the ceremony will be in the Waupun Ice Arena.
Speaking of weather, what a lousy week. Hail storms damaging all of our cars, and tornado warning storms on Tuesday. I want to thank our city employees for being so committed to Waupun. Public Works, Utilities, Firefighters, and police were all out in the storm, and after, to help get Waupun back to normal. I also want to thank my city hall staff for their work on Tuesday night. For much of the overnight hours, City Administrator Kathy Schelieve, City Clerk Angie Hull, joined our department heads as overnight meetings were held to deal with the storm. It was a long and exhausting night, and week. I’m looking forward to the long weekend.
I’m excited to announce that SSM Health is planning a Waupun Community Conversation on Monday July 8th 6pm. SSM wants to hear what’s important to Waupun and where we need to do more. For example, my recommendation was easier access to mental health care. As we close out Mental Health Awareness month, I know how devastating mental health conditions can be and the toll they take on people, and the ones who love them.
Anyone who attends is welcome to enjoy snacks, refreshments, and you even get a Kwik Trip gas card! Who doesn’t want gas? If you wish to attend, please register at 920.929.3190.
The City of Sculpture, Sculpture Tour sculptures have shown up. I’ll write more about them next week, but they sure look cool, and build off our city branding as Wisconsin’s City of Sculpture.
I think this is a cool way to honor and add to Mr. Shaler’s legacy.
Finally, this is Memorial Day weekend. Please take time and think about those Americans who gave their lives so that we might be free. America is a great nation, with many freedoms, but those freedoms were not free. They were earned by the blood of American soldiers and blessed by God. Let’s never forget them.
