Mayor’s Column January 20th, 2024
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun!

What a week it’s been! Cold and snowy. I guess winter didn’t forget about us after all.  I do want to begin this week’s column by thanking the crew over at the Department of Public Works for all their hard work cleaning up our city.  With the amount of snow we got, followed by the below zero temperatures, it’s been a challenge to clean it all up. The crew has been putting in 10 hour plus days this week, and I really appreciate their dedication to Waupun!  I think we take for granted how awesome our city employees are, and as Mayor I sure don’t want their efforts to go unnoticed!

With all this snow and cold, the snowmobile trails are open!  I don’t know the last time they were open for this length of time, and with that we’re getting snowmobile tourist.  The Waupun Drift Jumpers reached out to me this week to let me know our hotels are filling up with people using the trails. Because of this, I have approved a waiver to allow trucks and trailers to be parked along Gateway Drive, Shaler Drive, and at Tanner Park over nights.  Hopefully we have several snowmobilers in our city this weekend spending money and paying hotel taxes!!

This week we have a couple public listening sessions with the candidates to be our next police chief. They are TUESDAY, JANUARY 23, 2024 AT 1:00PM and WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 24, 2024 AT 6:00PM at the Waupun Senior Center downtown. I’ll be at  both, and look forward to hearing from you.

Finally, it looks like warmer temperatures and rain coming this week. Please make sure your storm drains near your house are clear from snow and debris. We don’t want any flooding issues.

Take care, Waupun!

Thank you and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
