Press Release — Waupun Police Department Investigating Suspicious Death on 100 Block of W Brown St

WAUPUN — On 1/4/2023 at approximately 4:51am, the Waupun Police Department and local EMS responded to a medical call at a residence in the 100 block of W Brown St in the city of Waupun. It was reported that a subject was believed to be deceased inside the residence. Upon arriving at the residence, officers observed a 74 year old man inside the residence that appeared to be deceased. The Dodge County Medical Examiner’s Office was contacted to respond to the death scene. During the preliminary investigation, investigators determined the death was suspicious in nature. The Wisconsin Department of Justice State Crime Laboratory was contacted to assist with processing the death scene. At this time the death remains under investigation.

There is no ongoing threat to the public. The 74 year deceased man is identified as Paul Abresch Sr.

An autopsy was conducted 1/5/24 and it showed numerous injuries to his torso and injuries to his head/facial area. We are currently waiting on final autopsy results, toxicology results, and the cause of death.

On 1/4/24 a 42 year old man, who was present at the W Brown St residence, was taken into custody on an unrelated charge of Felony Bail Jumping. The man has been held at the Dodge County Jail since. The Waupun Police Department is also requesting additional charges of False Imprisonment a Class H Felony and Witness Intimidation a Class G Felony, against the 42 year old man. These charges are related to this incident. The 42 year old man has not been formally charged at this point, thus his name hasn’t been released. The investigation is ongoing and further information will be released at a later date.
