Mayor’s Column September 30th, 2023
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun!

This past Tuesday was the groundbreaking on our new Senior/Community Center! You may be wondering why we have elected to call this the Waupun Community Center, when we already have a building known as a community center?

Well, the new building encourages the type of activity you would see in a traditional community center; with year-round access, and as this building opens, our plans include expansion of the hours of operation and programming to meet the needs of all generations. Both Waupun Food Pantry and REACH Waupun will be tenants of the building, bringing community resources together for the first time under one roof. And as far as renaming the current facility, the City will continue to work with Waupun Hockey on their full replacement project and is in full discussion with selling naming rights to that building to support needed building improvements.

The 2024 budget is coming along nicely, and I’m excited to say we’re committed to keeping Waupun a great place to live, work and play, because this budget is prioritizing Waupun’s needs! The proposed budget puts additional funds towards our police and fire departments, it invests in city buildings by taking care of necessary roof repairs, and tuckpointing at both the city hall and Carnegie Library building (Historical Society).  This budget is putting money into streets, opens a new Community/Senior Center, invests into child care stabilization, improvements at the aquatic center, and helps out youth sports.

It’s also a responsible budget that pays off some debt, is looking into fleet management practices, moves towards an employee health clinic, all while slightly lowering taxes.

As you know, we’re now just a week away from Centennial Rededication of the Recording Angel sculpture, scheduled for Saturday at 10am.  On Saturday evening, at 6pm and 8pm, are the Waupun Community Players performances of their play, ” A Poison Pen Letter to an Angel.”

On Friday, October 6, WTMJ radio will be broadcasting live from Real Sportscards in downtown Waupun as we kick off our celebratory weekend. That afternoon will be the Homecoming Parade, and that evening will be the downtown beer walk.  Should be a fun weekend!

Thank you and God Bless,

Mayor Rohn
