WAUPUN — The Waupun Ecumenical Committee held a service in the City Hall Auditorium Thursday evening in recognition of the National Day of Prayer, which is recognized by the United States on the first Thursday of May.

The purpose of the National Day of Prayer is to encourage Christians “to turn to God in prayer and meditation” and to pray for the government and people of the United States, both at a national and local level.

The congregation heard messages from Rev. Steve Miller of Waupun United Methodist Church, Rev. Jerry Molitor of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Rev. Dr. Greg Schuringa of First Christian Reformed Church, Mayor of Waupun Rohn Bishop, Waupun School Board member Jennie Patrykus, Gary Dr Jager of Brooks Shoes and Repair, Waupun Fire Chief BJ DeMaa, Terri Respalje of the Waupun Area Food Pantry, and Rev. Barry Lang of First Reformed Church. 6th Congressional District US Representative Glenn Grothman was also able to attend and gave a message about the country as a whole.

Between messages the congregation joined together to sing a number of hymns including Shine, Jesus, Shine, How Great Thou Art, and God Bless America. Piano accompaniment was played by Christopher Nord.

Last December the Waupun Ecumenical Committee hosted a program for Christmas titled “Ecumenical Festival of Lessons and Carols.”
