WAUPUN — Improv comedy trio “The Joe ‘Schmoes” held a performance in the Waupun City Hall Auditorium Saturday evening, their second performance at City Hall.

The trio is made up of Joe Venhuizen, Grace Venhuizen Bruins, and Nate Scheuers—all Waupun locals. The group last performed in Waupun’s historic City Hall two years ago at their 2024 debut performance.

Comedy improv differs from a typical comedy routine where the action is based on quick-witted responses instead of a script. This allows for higher levels of audience participation, as it can be based on topics even chosen by the audience.

Skits included “live reporter” where they work with chosen members of the audience to tell an ever more astounding story, and another game based on guessing cliches selected by the audience—in this case themed around high school graduation—where the team have to act out the theme and succeed if they guess all of the cliches that the audience chose.

The performance went from 7PM to about 9PM with an intermission. It was put on by the Waupun Fine Arts Committee, who also organize the annual Summer Concerts in the Park every July, and Fine Arts and Crafts Fair in August.

Over 90 people attended the comedy performance. Tickets were $15 at the door.

The trio are available for hire to perform at events and occasions.
