Hello Waupun
Unless you’ve been living in a cornfield, you’ve likely noticed our newest sculpture has made her way to Waupun. Located at Medema Fields on West Lincoln Street, the sculpture honors Waupun native Mamie Redman. Redman was a professional woman’s baseball player in the 1940s, a story helped told in the Tom Hanks movie “A Legue of Their Own.”
Last night was the Young Entrepreneurs Youth Market sponsored by Discover Waupun. The event had an awesome turnout with over 30 kiddos selling items, and many homemade. It was so cool seeing all the kids and their “stores” as well as so many residents who came down to help make the event a success! What a neat experience for the kids who participated. We came home with baked goods, Halloween decorations, squishes, popcorn, and more. Congratulations to all the kids who participated and thank you to Discover Waupun for hosting such a cool event. I would like to thank the team at Public Works, especially Jackson Stobb, for their efforts to close Main Street and keeping everybody safe. I’ll be bringing Mr. Stobb a case of Budweiser as a thank you.
Coming up on Tuesday is the Partisan Primary election day. The polls will be open from 7AM to 8PM at Waupun City Hall. Because of the election, the Common Council Meeting has been moved to Tuesday, August 25. And the Board of Public Works will be on Wednesday August 12.
Finally, thank you to everyone who’s reached out with condolences and well wishes this past week. If you don’t know, our 20-year-old cat, Mr. Smith passed away over the weekend. Our girls have never known life without him being around, and having had him for so long, it’s been weird not having him here. There’s no one meowing me awake in the morning, or racing me down the stairs, or knocking over a water cup because I didn’t fill it enough. He was unique, he was family, and he is greatly missed.
