Mayor’s Column April 18, 2026
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun
Hello Waupun!
We got through that long week of severe weather. I want to thank Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Government B.J. DeMaa and Assistant Chief Beer and the entire department for the extra time put in this week to help ensure Waupun stayed safe. Being up at all hours; tracking tornado warned storms. I also want to acknowledge Director of Public Works Jeff Danne, who spent a good amount of time this week monitoring the water as both the creek and river levels rose. I also should mention Administrator Schlieve for her help, too. Together, along with our team at Waupun Utilities and Police, we stay in constant commutation during severe weather events.
I also want to thank Council President Dan Siebers, because on Friday about noon, I left Waupun for the Twin Cities to cheer on my daughters, and all the Waupun kiddos, at this weekend’s dance competition going on here, and in the event Friday night’s storms would have caused significant damage, Dan was prepared to sign an emergency declaration in my absence if necessary. And finally, I want to thank my family, as I had to have a plan for a quick return to Waupun had that happened. Thankfully it did not! It takes a team of committed people to make this all work, and a lot goes on behind the scenes.
This upcoming Tuesday at 5:30pm will be my swearing in for a new term as mayor. It’s at city hall and open to anyone who wishes to attend.
I see some questions on Facebook of City-Wide Rummage for 2026. In 2025 Council designated the annual City-Wide Rummage Sale Day to be the Saturday following Mother’s Day, meaning this year’s will be on Saturday May 16.
Finally, this past Thursday I had the privilege of visiting Ms. Bille Fields classes at Waupun Junior/Senior High School. I always enjoy talking about being mayor, what a mayor does, Waupun and Waupun history and anything else that comes up. The students seem to stay engaged and ask really good questions. Hopefully, I was speaking to one of our future mayors!
Let’s hope for a dryer and nice weather week.
Thank you,
Mayor Rohn
