Mayor’s Column December 20, 2025
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun and Merry Christmas!

This will likely be my last column of 2025. With Christmas next week I don’t know if it pays to have a column. Unless something important develops, I’ll probably take a week off from writing a column. Being late December there really isn’t much pressing happening right now; most committee meetings were canceled this month, because as you know, we’re all busy with holiday events.

That said, there isn’t much to update you on, but I do want to touch on some news stories from this past week. We learned that the Waupun Police are investigating two different possible embezzlements to local organizations. Discover Downtown Waupun and The Waupun Booster Club are victims to potential theft, and while neither one directly involves city government, both are important to our community. As we move through this it’s important to remember two things, 1. Everyone involved is innocent until proven guilty, and 2. Both organizations do important work for our community and deserve our support in the future. While this may be a black eye and a tough situation to get through, we will get through, and Waupun will continue to support organizations that do good for our community.

Lastly, I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Every year our family watches the Charlie Brown Christmas Special, and the famous scene when Charlie famously screams out, “Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?!”

Linus replied, “Sure Charlie Brown, I can tell you what Christmas is all about. … ‘And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.’”

“That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.”

Even though it’s the darkest and coldest season, it’s also a season of hope, faith, and joy. The greatest gift given to mankind was a baby boy who’d live a perfect life and die for our sins so that we may all be saved.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and God Bless you,
Mayor Rohn
