Mayor’s Column March 15, 2025
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun
Hello Waupun!
I want to start by thanking the Waupun Fire Department, Waupun Utilities, and Alliant Energy for their quick responses to what could have been a real disaster overnight. If you haven’t heard, there was a gas leak on the 300 block of E. Main St, forcing the evacuation of 20 people. This morning, the 20 people are back home, and Alliant will be hooking them back up today. Thank you to Chief DeMaa for the update shortly after midnight.
On Friday Representative Mark Born and Senator John Jagler held a listening session at City Hall. About 30 people showed up for a lively discussion about issues important to them. As Mayor, I’d like to thank Born and Jagler for coming, and for their efforts to work with me to be up to speed on issues the city is facing, specifically the importance of Waupun Correctional to our community, the rising cost of streets, and why Waupun and Waupun Utilities supports the “ROFR” bill.
With the nice weather we’re definitely moving towards spring. With that, it looks like we’ll be opening the park bathrooms on April 1. Hopefully the weather holds, and that’s not an April Fools’ joke.
April 1 is also the spring election. The election will be back at city hall.
Speaking of parks; work has begun on the new playground equipment at Zoellner park.
We’ve hired some part-time help to help operate the new community center. Starting on Monday, the building will start opening up at 6AM and remain open until 7PM. Memberships are super affordable; you can work out, shoot hoops, join pickle ball, shoot pool, etc. for like $10 per month! So, I highly recommend you look into it.
Also, coming up on April 12 is the Waupun Utilities e-Waste Recycling Event. For more information check out the Utilites Facebook and/or website. You can also call them with any questions you may have at 324-7920.
Thank you,
Mayor Rohn
