Mayor’s Column March 14, 2026
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun!

As I write this, there is much uncertainty about an incoming winter storm. Depending on if the storm tracks 30 miles north or south, Waupun could get a mixed precipitation, two plus feet of snow, or something in between. With this much uncertainty and the potential for either heavy ice, heavy snow, and blizzard winds, city department heads and I have been meeting as we prepare a response to the storm. Basically, all city and utilities staff are around, on call, and aware of the potential impact of what could be a very bad storm. This is one of those situations where all we can do is plan for the worst and hope for the best.

If you have not already heard, Melanie Williams of Blue Heron Antiques/BH Home won the Main Street makeover contest. We are starting the design phase of her project. She will receive technical design assistance from WEDC and $10K to support her façade makeover. The project will be completed this year. This will be for the betterment of the entire district and we are pretty excited about this opportunity.

For this year’s celebration of America 250, you’ll be seeing some patriotic bunting on city hall as well as an America 250 flag that we’ll fly this year. We’re also looking into new flag poles that spin for the downtown light poles. The spinning poles would allow us to put the flags up in the spring, and leave them up through fall without wrapping around the pole. I’m hopeful to also fly Wisconsin and Waupun flags to be scattered in with the USA flags. This will help make Waupun more aesthetically pleasing and patriotic.

Later today (Saturday) I’ll be stopping in at the Charming Reads Two Year Anniversary event, the American Legion’s 126 anniversary event, and then the annual Waupun Learn To Hunt Turkey Banquet. Maybe I’ll see you out and about!

Thank you and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
