FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WAUPUN — On December 11, 2025, the Waupun Police Department received a complaint concerning financial discrepancies within the Waupun Athletic Booster Club finances. The initial complaint suggested fraudulent activity with the Booster Club’s bank account. The discrepancies were first noticed by the club’s treasurer, and they immediately contacted the Waupun Police Department to initiate an investigation.
The investigation revealed that the financial discrepancies were a direct result of stolen Scrip gift cards. These are otherwise described as gift cards for local businesses that are purchased by the club, then sold for a small profit to benefit Waupun Area School District athletic programs. Numerous cards were stolen over the course of approximately 2-3 months, which resulted in a total loss for the Booster Club of $18,650.00. A review of invoices, transaction summaries, inventory adjustments, video surveillance footage, and several interviews led to evidence that the Booster Club’s Scrip Sales Manager had been taking the gift cards, and using them for personal gain, without consent of the Booster Club.
As a result of the investigation, charges were filed by the Dodge County District Attorney Office against a 49-year-old Lomira woman for Theft in a Business Setting, pursuant to WI State Statute 943.20(1)(b), a Class G Felony. The woman was in charge of the Scrip program as the Scrip sales manager, and used her position at the Waupun Jr/Sr High School to take, conceal, and use money (gift cards) belonging to the Waupun Athletic Booster Club for personal expenses, without authorization from the Booster Club. The woman did confess to stealing gift cards during a subsequent investigative interview. Due to the ongoing court process, no additional details will be released at this time.
This was an independent investigation conducted by the Waupun Police Department. The Waupun Police Department would like to commend the Waupun Jr/Sr High School Administration, and the Waupun Athletic Booster Club for their complete cooperation and transparency during the investigation. This was an isolated incident and the Waupun Police Department would like to encourage the public to continue to support the Waupun Athletic Booster Club. The defendant is no longer associated with the Booster Club or the Waupun School District.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
