WAUPUN — The City of Waupun is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeremy Rasch to Chief of Police.  Over the past month, the Waupun Police and Fire Commission (PFC) conducted a series of staff feedback sessions, community forums and held an interview before making the appointment by unanimous decision.

Police Chief Rasch began his career with the City of Waupun in 2002 as a patrol officer and has a long record of accomplishment with the department.  In 2010, Rasch was promoted to police lieutenant, in 2017 to Deputy Police Chief, and in 2023 became Interim Police Chief.  During his time with Waupun Police Department, Rasch has served on various boards and commissions both at the city and county level.  Mayor Rohn Bishop commented, “Jeremy is well prepared to assume this next level of leadership.  In his interim chief role, he has already made a significant impact on our department and the community.  This promotion is well deserved.”

Rasch holds an Associate Degree is Police Science from Waukesha County Technical College and has participated in a variety of professional development trainings over the course of his career, including Field Training Officer, FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development, Critical Incident Management, and numerous leadership development programs.  Rasch was nominated for Dodge County Officer of the Year in 2006, has developed and implemented numerous community safety programs, and in 2010 reestablished the Citizen Police Academy in the City of Waupun.

Recruitment for the deputy police chief position vacated when Rasch assumed the interim chief role will begin immediately.  Rasch will take an oath of office and the city will hold a pinning ceremony on Monday, February 19, 2024 at 5 p.m. at Waupun City Hall.  The public is invited to attend.

The following is a statement from Chief Jeremy Rasch sent out Wednesday afternoon:

I am honored and grateful that the Waupun Police and Fire Commission has selected me for the appointment of Chief of Police. The city of Waupun and the Waupun Police Department have given me many opportunities throughout my career and I am appreciative for that. I will serve as the 17th Chief of Police for the city of Waupun since the inception of the Office of the Police Chief in 1867.

The police department staff is committed to public safety and will continue to work with the citizens and the community as a whole to ensure Waupun continues to be one of the safest cities in Wisconsin. The department will continue to focus on deterring criminal behavior through presence, enforcement, education, and cooperation with the community.

As Chief I will be committed to and will focus on: employee development, employee wellness, community engagement, recruitment and retention of professional staff, and adapting to changes and new trends in law enforcement.
