Mayor’s Column August 9, 2025
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun
Hello Waupun!
This was another fun and exciting week! On Wednesday I had the privilege of participating in the ribbon cutting for the new Kwik Trip East. During my speech, I told the story of visiting my mom’s family in the Chicago area for Christmas last year. We rented a hotel room, and we were on our way to a local convenience store for snacks and drinks when Maggie asked, “Mom, where’s the Kwik Trip?” Jenny responded that “We’re in Illinois, they don’t have Kwik Trips here.” Maggie snapped, “What?! Illinois sucks!”
It’s a funny story of a 10 year old who just wants a Kwik Trip, but it is an example of how Kwik Trip is such an iconic Wisconsin brand, and going to Kwik Trip is one of the few shared experiences we have left. I’m glad Kwik Trip expanded to two Waupun locations, and they’ll see ya next time!
On Thursday, I was able to ride shotgun with Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt as we led the World Famous Alto Fair Parade. While not in Waupun, it seems like half of Waupun is there. Mayor Bob Reinap once joked that the “Alto Fair is a big Hollander Family Reunion 10-fold!” I think what makes the fair so unique is that you see just about everyone there!
Friday was the end of the Summer Park Program picnic at Dodge Park. They had pizzas, drinks, games, and Fire Chief DeMaa brought the ladder truck and used it as a giant sprinkler for the kids! The turnout was great, and the weather was perfect for such a wet event!
This upcoming week we’ll have the Utilities Commission on Monday, Board of Public Works on Tuesday, and Common Council on Tuesday at 6pm.
Lastly, as I write this, city officials are monitoring the weather. It appears this heat will give away to severe storms with the potential of very heavy rains. Waupun currently is under a Flood WATCH until Monday. Please be mindful of the weather and stay safe.
Thank you Waupun and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
