WAUPUN — Eleven people attended the first public meeting of the new truck show group last Thursday, February 6.
The meeting included three of the original people promoting the idea of forming a new committee; Nikki Landaal, Bobbi Jo Kunz, and Jason Whitford. A few of the new attendees were locals with experience in the trucking industry.
A few of the new attendees were locals with experience in the trucking industry, and one attendee a member of the former Truck-n-Show Committee.
The meeting was led by Landaal, who gave a short presentation to start discussions on what a new truck show could look like. They also discussed the history of the previous show, and ideas on how to get the new organization off the ground.
The main concern was whether they would be able to garner enough interest to match the original Truck-n-Show, which when it ended last year had a core team of ten, with over fifty volunteers who would help on the weekend of the event.
“It was good to see about a dozen folks show up to support the organization of a new truck show in the city, but the reality is if we aren’t able to form a board then a new truck show won’t be possible, unfortunately,” Whitford said.
As this meeting was just to gather ideas, they decided that they would form a committee at a future meeting which they would hold on March 5 at 6PM. More information will be released closer to the date.
Expected to be on the next meeting agenda will be nominating committee members, setting a time schedule, and choosing a name for the new show. Some ideas were floated at the meeting including “County Line Truck Show” and “Prison City Truck Show”.
The new group has no affiliation to the former Waupun Truck-n-Show Committee, which filed to officially dissolve last year.
