WAUPUN — The Waupun Fine Arts Committee unveiled the latest art gallery at the Waupun Public Library, this time of artwork from 12 students and alum at Central Wisconsin Christian school in Waupun.

An artist reception was held last Thursday to give students the chance to show off and discuss their artwork.

“All the students’ art that is on display here is from last school year and it was displayed at the Trailways Conference Art Show in May,” said Katy Herrmann, who is the art teacher at CWC. “I think four of them earned ribbons at the conference show, which is really good. This is kind of an encore presentation of their artwork, which the Fine Arts group asked us if we could display.”

Herrmann teaches art classes at CWC for grades 6th through 12th. The displayed artwork was done by students ranging from sophmores to students who graduated last year, with some students participating with several pieces.

“I’m really proud of the work that they’ve put into it,” Herrmann said. “This is my third year teaching at the school, so I haven’t known them very long, and to see the growth in just these past two years is incredible.”

“So many people that didn’t know they were good at art that took an art class and learned that they were good at art and have kept going with it since then, that’s my favorite thing,” she added.

Several of the students gave short presentations during the reception explaining their art, with family and friends attending to see the work on display.

Some of the artwork was produced by the same students who participated in the chalk competition at the Fine Art and Craft Fair earlier this month.

Also at the library last week were auditions to the next Waupun Community Players performance “The Odd Couple” scheduled for this December.
