WAUPUN — Business is booming in town with several new businesses popping up downtown this week.
Kartechner and Girls Flower Co. is a full service florist and have various plants and gifts in their shop. On January 30 they announced they would be opening in March. They officially opened on Thursday, March 21.
The business is owned and managed by Christina Kartechner, who has a huge passion for gardening which inspired starting her own floristry.
“It started with a garden at my house,” Christina said. “It was a small cutting garden and then every year kind of got bigger and it was something I did with my daughters, Lois and Violet. And as they grew, the garden grew, and now it has blossomed into a shop.”
Inside they sell a variety of plants and garden-themed items including flowers, cacti, planting pots, hats, goat milk soaps, plant-themed plushies, and more. The shop can be found at the Old Masonic Block at 18 S. Madison Street.
“We got the keys on February 15 and got to work right away,” she said. “I painted that weekend and my husband painted the ceiling. He added new floors, added the built-in show cooler. All of it came together in a month, which was a lot. I look back and it feels like it’s been a long time but it’s only been a month.”
Last week, used book store Charming Reads opened next door at 20 S. Madison St. The Madeline Clothing Company also held their grand opening at their new location in Waupun the same day, and can be found at 425 E Main St.
