WAUPUN — The City of Waupun honored Sandra Rohrer at Tuesday’s Common Council meeting following her resignation from the Waupun Library Board.

Rohrer had served on the Library Board since 1979, for a total of 44 years. In this time the library had gone through several expansions, several library directors, countless festivals and events, and many years of serving the Waupun area. Rohrer served as board secretary and treasurer prior to her resignation.

Rohrer submitted her resignation to the City on November 15th, citing health issues.

“I wish to thank the City for having allowed me to be part of this incredible Board for all these years,” Rohrer said in the resignation letter. “It has been one of my greatest joys. I couldn’t be prouder of the building itself, the diverse services it provides to our community and most importantly the outstanding staff led by an equally outstanding Director.”

“Thanks to our Council, heads of the departments, and the entire staff at City Hall who have supported our Library and work so hard to keep this City going forward.”

The City Council accepted her resignation from the board, followed by an official Mayoral Proclamation to honor her dedicated years of service.

“Sandra Rohrer has embodied the heart and soul of the Waupun Public Library and has worked diligently to promote all services of the library and reading of all levels,” Mayor of Waupun Rohn Bishop said in the proclamation. “Be it forever known the City of Waupun and the Waupun Public Library do hereby commend Sandra Rohrer for her countless contributions and undying commitment to the Waupun Public Library and wish her best in the future.”

Mayor Bishop proclaimed “Sandra Rohrer Day” to be celebrated in the City of Waupun on Tuesday, December 5th, 2023.

The proclamation was sent to be delivered to Rohrer by Library Director Bret Jaeger.

“I’ll miss her on the board, she’s the last person in the library board who actually hired me,” Jaeger said. Bret Jaeger has served as Library Director since 1997.
