Early Mayor’s Column November 22nd, 2023
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun
Hello Waupun and Happy Thanksgiving! This column will be a little different. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I’d like to write about a few things I’m thankful for.
First, as we celebrate Thanksgiving, I’d like to say how thankful I am to be your mayor! I love Waupun and being mayor has been the honor of my life. When I first ran for mayor, I said I’d always put Waupun first, and I believe I have done that. I know a few of my decisions have cost me a customer or two, that some decisions anger even friends, and that not everyone agrees with everything I do, but I hope you know that every decision I make, whether you agree with me or not, I’m putting Waupun first.
Second, I’m thankful to my family for putting up with me being the mayor. There are phone calls, texts, messages, emails, and visitors at all hours of the day. We even get a creepy post card every once in a while. Everyone knows where we live and what we’re doing, and Jenny and the girls have been super supportive, and I’m thankful for them.
I’m also very thankful for their support as I try to live healthier. This can be a high stress job, and I’ve recently been diagnosed as having pre-diabetes. I’m making some lifestyle changes, including dietary changes and a lot more exercise. So hopefully you’ll soon be seeing “less” of me.
I would like to thank my good friend Carly, who donated time over the past year helping me with the social media and public relations part of the job. Her selflessness has helped me be a better mayor, and I wish her well as she starts her new job!
I’m thankful to the city and utility employees who make me look good by doing a good job day in and day out. Waupun is fortunate to have a team of people who really are committed to our community.
Finally, Waupun has so much going on, and I’m so proud to be the mayor at this time! Our downtown is booming and seeing unprecedented investment. Our industrial park is seeing the largest expansion in the history of Waupun. We’re adding streets, investing in child care, we have Wisconsin’s best water, we’re Wisconsin’s seventh safest city, we have awesome schools, great people who give of their time and money to make Waupun a great place to live, and we’re once again honoring our history as Wisconsin’s City of Sculpture!
More than anything else, I’m thankful to live in Waupun!
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.
Thank you and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
