WAUPUN — The Waupun Lions Club presented the Waupun Fire Department a check of $10,285.00 this week Monday.

The money was raised at the annual Lions Club Golf Outing last June where they sold 855 tickets for the “Drop Your Balls” event following the golf outing, raising over $5,000. The fundraiser event was sponsored by Horicon Bank.

On top of the fundraiser the Lions received a price match from GBU Life Insurance Company for $5,000.

“GBU is a fraternal life insurance company, which is how they can do the matching funds,” said Lion Sue Vandeberg, who organized the connection between GBU and the Lions for the fundraiser.

According to the official GBU Life Insurance Co. website, they are a “member-owned, not-for-profit provider of life insurance and annuity products since 1892.” GBU is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

“We hope this money will help fund the purchase of a decontamination shower station for the Waupun Fire Department,” the Waupun Lions Club said in a Facebook post Monday evening

The Waupun Fire Department has been looking to upgrade facilities at the Safety Building, including the addition of a decontamination shower which could be used by firefighters after coming into contact with burning materials.

The showers were estimated to cost $400,000 to install when discussed at an ARPA workshop meeting held last January
