Mayor’s Column August 19th, 2023
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun
Hello Waupun!
The city’s credit rating has gone up! While that might not be the sexiest issue to begin this week’s mayor’s column with, it is good news, and it shows that Waupun is in a good position financially with responsible leadership. Waupun was an A1 and we are now at an Aa3 rating.
Late Wednesday night, two of the four tornado sirens activated on their own, which has prompted an investigation into why. Waupun has four outdoor tornado sirens, strategically located around the city. The locations are West Street located by the Wild Boar, North Madison Street at the cemetery entrance, South Madison Street at Dodge Park, and Industrial Drive near the business park. The two Madison Street sirens are the ones that activated themselves. As of this writing (6am on Friday) it appears the sirens were triggered by a low powered energy source that operates on the same tone frequencies as the sirens. Seeing that we’ve had no problems with our sirens in the past, it’s likely that this is some sort of a new energy source. Waupun Emergency Management along with our tornado siren vendor are troubleshooting the problem. We will do our best to keep you updated going forward.
The City of Waupun Emergency Response survey is still live for a few more days. If you haven’t already completed the survey, I ask that you do. The survey is located in a blue banner along the top of our website located at CityofWaupun.org.
Finally, the Recording Angel Centennial Rededication team came together for a meeting at the sculpture on Wednesday morning. We worked out the logistics of the event and some of the last details that need planning. The rededication will be on Saturday October 7 at the sculpture, and that evening the Waupun Community Players will be presenting a play based on the Shaler kidnapping plot that included a ransom demand in exchange for not blowing up the sculpture. The show will be Saturday afternoon and evening in the historic City Hall auditorium.
Thank you and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
