WAUPUN — The Waupun Public Library concluded their Summer Reading Program last Saturday with their “Carnival Finale” event. The Library Carnival was attended by about 250 people, mostly children who participated in the library’s summer program.

The Library’s carnival tradition started in 2015 as a way to finish off the Summer Reading Program, a series of events and challenges over six to seven weeks in May, June, and July.

The Summer Reading Program typically runs from the end of the school year in May to the third or fourth week of July. This year’s program had 360 total participants, many of which attended the finale carnival.

“It’s our way of celebrating all the kids that put in all the hard work for the past six weeks of reading and activities, and it’s just a fun way to say ‘way to go, good job,’” said Tami Lont, who serves as the children’s librarian at Waupun Public Library.

This year’s Carnival included a variety of games returning from previous years, face painting, a caricature artist, petting goats, popcorn and sno-cones, and a bouncy house and velcro-ax throwing booth provided by Jump Around Rentals.

Tragically the Library was unable to secure the much-loved dunk tank for this year as it had been already rented out for the weekend.

“I appreciate the opportunity to have these fun events that the city and counties provide and that we can have these programs for the community,” said Pam Garcia, Assistant Director of the Waupun Public Library.
