WAUPUN — The 2023 State American Legion Baseball Tournament began Friday at Waupun Baseball Complex.
The tournament began on Friday, July 25th with a number of games throughout the day. The official opening ceremony was held at 7PM.
The ceremony began with a brief history on the Legion Baseball program before introducing each of the participating teams. After the teams were introduced was the showing of the colors by veterans of the American Legion and the singing of the National Anthem by MaKenya Potratz.
Also during the ceremony was a welcome speech from Mayor of Waupun Rohn Bishop, followed by Waupun player Landon Potratz who read the quote of sponsorship from the American Legion.
As per tradition, Mayor Bishop threw the first pitch.
Following the opening ceremony was the Post 210 Waupun v Beloit opening game. Waupun lost against Beloit with a final score of 12-11, the highly exciting game went from 7:30PM to 10:30PM.
Waupun tragically also lost the 2PM Saturday game against Germantown 8-1, knocking Post 210 Waupun out of the tournament.
The tournament will continue until Tuesday, July 25th for the championship game. Results will be continually updated on the official Waupun Post 210 American Legion Baseball Facebook page.
