Mayor’s Column May 20th, 2023
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun
Hello Waupun,
If you’ve been by Shaler Park, you’ve seen the new fountain is up and running! It has cool lighting that we can change, so look for red, while, and blue, at Memorial Day, etc. The campaign to buy a new fountain was led by Tyler and Kels Schultz, and the Waupun Community Fund. Many people made generous donations towards the new fountain and Tyler and I are planning a ceremony for the new fountain, on Thursday May 25 at 6:30 at Shaler Park.
We really want to take a moment to thank everyone who contributed to the new fountain! I also want to thank Mike Rens from the Public Works Department who helped install it. Rumor has it he got a little wet putting it in. I appreciate his hard work and dedication to our city.
Speaking of installing a fountain, this upcoming week is Public Works Appreciation Week, a week set aside to thank the dedication of everyone who works in our Public Works Department. Our DPW crew of only 13 takes care of our city parks, including many sports fields. They maintain city buildings, fix just about anything, plow the snow, salt the streets, paint the streets, help maintain city vehicles, fix Christmas decorations, and are generally always on call. They do a great job, need help, and have my appreciation!
Planning continues for the Centennial Rededication Ceremony for the Recording Angel Sculpture on October 7. I’m excited to announce that the June 4th meat raffle at the Other Bar will be held in support of the rededication ceremony! Thank you to Steve, Andy, and everyone at the Other Bar who helps with these meat raffles and donates the proceeds to local non-profit organizations.
The railroad crossing replacement is coming up soon! You’ve been seeing prep work going on near the Main Street crossing, and it’s still scheduled for the week of June 13th. While Main Street is closed to through traffic, we will be doing some repairs along Main Street that week. So please drive carefully, and you will NOT be able to cross at the Main Street crossing that week.
Finally, the Memorial Day Parade will be on Memorial Day at 9am, with a ceremony to follow at Shaler Park. If you have any questions, please contact my guy, Frank Mesa, and he’ll be happy to help you!
Thank you and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
