MADISON — As we wrap up another productive year in the State Legislature, I am proud to reflect on the work we accomplished for Wisconsin families, workers, and communities through the 2025-2027 state budget. At a time when many households are still feeling the effects of inflation, Republicans delivered a responsible budget that focused on tax relief, public safety, and strong schools.

One of the biggest highlights was providing meaningful tax relief. This budget delivered a $1.5 billion tax cut for Wisconsin families and seniors, blocked more than $3.7 billion in proposed tax increases, and eliminated a new bracket that would have raised income taxes on hardworking Wisconsinites. These changes help families keep more of their own money and make it easier for seniors who built their lives here to stay in Wisconsin through retirement.

We also made historic investments in education, with a strong focus on supporting students with the greatest needs. The budget included over $500 million in new special education funding, the largest increase in state history, along with more than $50 million in additional high-cost special education aid. This means real dollars going back into classrooms. For example, the Beaver Dam School District is projected to receive nearly $2 million more over the two-year state budget for special education, while Oakfield receives over $200,000 in new funding. These investments give both our larger and smaller school districts the resources they need to directly support students, hire and retain staff, and meet growing educational demands.

Keeping our communities safe remained a top priority as well. The budget strengthened public safety by investing in school safety, victim services, and our justice system. Funding was provided to strengthen the Office of School Safety, support child advocacy centers, increase compensation and staffing for prosecutors, and bolster services for crime victims across the state. These targeted investments help ensure our communities remain safe and that victims receive the support they deserve.

This year’s budget reflects a clear set of priorities: lower taxes, safer communities, and strong schools, all while living within our means. I am proud of what we accomplished together as a legislature and will continue working to make Wisconsin an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.
