Mayor’s Column November 29, 2025
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun
Hello Waupun,
I hope you all have had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It appears it will be a memorable weekend as we have a significant snowstorm moving in, which seems like a good time to remind people of Waupun’s Winter Parking rules.
Unlike most of the cities around us, we allow people to park on city streets year-round, however if it snows two or more inches, we have a 48-hour parking ban to allow city crews to clear the snow. I know sometimes it can be difficult to know for sure when the 48-hour restriction ends, so I always recommend that if you’re not sure, don’t risk it and don’t park on the street.
I understand what a pain in the butt winter parking can be, especially in some of the older sections of the city, where there are narrower streets, one ways, and smaller driveways and garages. It’s also difficult downtown in the municipal lots. As a city, we try to hit that sweet spot of allowing parking but also having to clear the snow, and it’s much easier and safer for our guys to be plowing when vehicles aren’t in the way. Snowstorms can be frustrating and annoying, but if we work together and help each other, they’re not so bad. We just have to be like Bing Crosby and dream about having a white Christmas!
The Christmas season is here! And that means that Friday evening is the Waupun Christmas Parade followed by the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. The parade is at 6:30PM and the tree lighting is immediately following. After that Santa will be at Juds Bowling.
Also, on Friday night the Waupun Historical Society is hosting their Christmas Cookbook Event before, during, and after the parade. They’ll have some snacks, refreshments, and it’s a great place to warm up. Stop in and see Steve and the crew! The museum always looks fantastic at Christmastime.
Finally, enjoy the snow and be safe.
Mayor Rohn
