Mayor’s Column October 4, 2025
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun
Hello Waupun!
The Community Services Open House is coming up this Monday, October 6th, from 5-7 pm. There will be displays and demonstrations from city departments including, Fire and Rescue, Police, Lifestar Ambulance, Dodge and FDL County Sheriffs’ offices, Waupun Utilities, Public Works, City Government, Parks and Recreation, and the Library. This biennial event is free and open to all who wish to learn more about all the different services our community offers. While there you can get a ride to the sky on the ladder truck, register to vote, and meet many of the people who help make Waupun a great place to live!
One of the services that makes Waupun a great place to live is the annual fall yard waste pickup which will begin this next week. I know the weather hasn’t been fall-like, but our wonderful public works crews will begin picking up and hauling away your fall waste. And even though it’s August hot out, the park bathrooms are beginning to close. It is October and the colder temps are right around the corner.
To help celebrate America’s 250th, both Homan Auto locations have installed 75’ tall flag poles to fly extra-large US flags. Homan’s is working with the VFW Post 6709 and Legion Post 210 for a flag raising ceremony, to be held at Homan Chrysler on West Main Street on Tuesday October 7th at 10am. The public is invited to participate in this ceremony. This is a great opportunity to say hi to Dan Holz and celebrate freedom! I hope to see you there.
Finally, did you know there are several ways to stay in the loop about city business? First, there’s this column. I personally write it weekly, and it’s published on the city’s website, the Waupun Pioneer News, and the WFDL radio website. Next, there’s my monthly listening session. On the last Tuesday of every month, at 1pm, I hold a Mayor’s Listening session at the Community Center’s Werner Harmsen room. Every session starts with me giving a city update and then a questions and answers segment. I’m usually there for a little more than an hour, and we have as many as 70 people attend. It’s free and open to all residents.
If you’re interested in city meetings, all agendas are posted to the city website, and per state statute all meeting agendas are also posted in the official newspaper (Currently FDL Reporter) and bulletin boards at city hall, Waupun Utilities, and the Library. All agendas are posted 48 hours prior to the meetings, and all meetings are available to be watched online.
As for news coverage of Waupun government events, the Waupun Pioneer News, WBEV’s Community Comment, and WFDL’s Between the Lines Program all cover Waupun happenings. For updates about city happenings in real time, I encourage you to join the Waupun News Alerts Facebook Group and/or like all the city department pages. Every city department does have their own Facebook Page.
Thank you and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
