Mayor’s Column May 24, 2025
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun
Good morning, Waupun,
I want to wish everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend. Here in Wisconsin, we look at Memorial Day as the unofficial start of summer. There’ll be cookouts, fishing, camping, baseball games, graduation parties, and the weather looks great. However, we must also remember why we have a Memorial Day weekend.
On Monday Waupun will have a Memorial Day Parade at 9AM followed by the annual VFW/American Legion Ceremony at Shaler Park. In Waupun, our Memorial Day Parade is patriotic, fun, and more of a celebration of our veterans and our country. The ceremony is more somber, as we pause to honor those who gave their lives, so that we may enjoy our freedoms.
Whether you can make it on Monday or not, I urge you to take some time Monday and reflect on the sacrifices of those who came before us, who laid down their lives for the lives of generations of Americans to come. Freedom is anything but free. It’s the most expensive human right ever purchased.
Thank you to all who’ve served, and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
