Waupun Fire Department Responds to Chimney Fire

WAUPUN — At 10:20 a.m. on Monday, February 17, Waupun Fire Crews responded to W7235 Cortes Road for a chimney fire. Upon arrival, flames were visible coming from the chimney. First arriving crews confirmed everyone was out of the house and then began suppression efforts through multiple access points inside the home and through the top of the chimney. Personnel were on scene for 1.5 hours working on fire suppression and overhaul.

The property is owned by Tom Clark. There are no initial damage estimates at this time however all damage was contained to the chimney. The occupants were able to return to the home once fire operations were completed. No firefighters or individuals at the scene were hurt during the incident.

Automatic aid from Alto, Beaver Dam, Brandon-Fairwater, Burnett and Fox Lake Fire Departments was cancelled once crews were able to assess the situation. Lifestar EMS assisted on scene with firefighter rehab and the Dodge County Emergency Response Team (DCERT) assisted with traffic control.

The Waupun Fire Department would like to take this time to remind our citizens of the importance and benefits of having working smoke detectors in your home. We would also like to remind everyone of the importance of having your chimney cleaned and inspected annually.
