WAUPUN — The Waupun Fine Arts Committee invited the Cajun Strangers to play at this year’s first Concert in the Park, held Thursday, July 4th.

Every year the Fine Arts Committee holds four live-performance concerts every Thursday in July.

Usually the Fine Arts concerts are held at West End Park but was moved this week to the Waupun Ice Arena because of the projected thunderstorms that afternoon, most of which ended up missing Waupun. This was the first time that Fine Arts moved the concert from their usual location.

The concert itself was preceded by the singing of the National Anthem in honor of Independence Day.

The Cajun Strangers are a Madison-based band that performs traditional Cajun dance music common to southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas. They have been performing in one way or another for nearly twenty years.

Some attendees danced in the middle of the floor while the songs were performed.

Refreshments were served at the event with a burger stand operated by the Fine Arts Committee. The menu included cheeseburgers and mushroom swiss burgers from Brandon Meats and pie and ice cream for dessert.

Next Thursday, July 11, the Del Rays will be performing at the second concert. The Del Rays also performed at one of the Concerts in the Park last year.
