Mayor’s Column October 31, 2026
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun,

How about them Brewers! 2026 World Series Champs. On Thursday I issued a Mayoral Proclamation declaring Friday as Milwaukee Brewers Day throughout the City of Waupun, and yesterday I joined some friends and attended the Brewers Parade in Milwaukee. It was fun to be a part of an historical occasion for the great state of Wisconsin!

This past week I attended the Wisconsin Manufactures and Commerce annual Business Day Event. It’s always educational. We hear from business and industry leaders about the current economic conditions, what the future looks like, and how the government can help the private sector grow the economy moving forward. Usually, that means the government getting out of the way, but there are ways local governments can partner to help attract business and see them thrive.

I met again with Corrections Secretary Jared Hoy. He reiterated his commitment to investing into Waupun Correctional. Over the past several years I’ve enjoyed working with Secretary Hoy. He took us seriously on why WCI is important to Waupun, and largely because of him momentum is on the side of WCI.

Tuesday was my monthly listening session at the community center, and once again we had a nice turnout. Next month’s guest will be School District Administrator Steve Hill.

On Wednesday morning, I was able to drive some of the new sections of Shaler Drive. This has been a long-time goal of mine, and it’s almost completed. They’re working on street lighting and some other things, however, the street should be open soon.

A week ago today, I had the privilege to travel to Milwaukee as a part of my membership in the “Pillars of the Community” a non partisan group that seeks to bolster faith in elections by hosting conversations between a group of politically diverse community leaders and election officials about the ongoing work at the state and local levels to deliver an election this year that meets voter expectations of reliability and security. These conversations will enable Pillars to gain a firsthand understanding of the electoral process and share their assessment with the public.

The goal of this process is transparency and dialogue about the preparations for upcoming elections, which will promote voter trust and confidence — regardless of the election’s results. The group is co-chaired by Former President Barak Obama attorney Bob Bauer and President George Bush’s attorney Ben Ginsberg.

We were able to participate with the Milwaukee Elections Board as they tested voting machines, answered questions, and then a good discussion with both attorneys. The election process is very fascinating, and being the dork, I am, I had a lot of fun.

Finally, Election Day is Tuesday. The voting will be held at the community center.

Back when I worked in partisan politics, we’d say things like “This is the most important election of your lifetime!” Well, as I’ve gotten older and more experienced, the election isn’t the most important. Is it important? YES! But regardless of who wins, we still go to work Wednesday, we still pay our taxes, the sun will come up, and God is still in charge.

I encourage you to get out and vote, or you can protest against both parties and not vote. Either way, Tuesday is your chance to exercise your right of self-governance. Remember, as voters, we get the government we deserve.

Thank you,
Mayor Rohn
